Our Services

Individual Psychotherapy: Youth & Adult

Our practice uses a variety of proven therapy methods including insight-oriented and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). Using these approaches, therapy sessions can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. Our team is able to provide both short-term, solution-focused therapy, as well as longer-term therapy designed to foster increased self-awareness and personal growth.

Many different types of people seek out therapy, including those with mental health disorders as well as those who are interested in improving functioning and enhancing overall well-being. Our practice sees clients with a wide range of presenting problems, including: depression, anxiety (including Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, panic, and phobias), trauma (including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, as well as overcoming the effects of abuse), stress management, sleep disturbance, behavioural problems, anger management issues, relationship issues and interpersonal difficulties, conflict resolution and communication difficulties, grief, chronic pain, self-esteem and confidence concerns and bullying. Individuals also often seek help in improving upon skills such as problem solving, time management, and assertiveness.

Psychotherapy involves an initial consultation meeting, followed by individual sessions designed to address your specific concerns and goals. Talking about the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that are concerning to you can help you to learn more effective coping strategies and to gain insight into the reasons behind these issues, which can provide you with the basis for making important changes. The frequency and duration of the appointments varies depending on the specific goals for treatment, but there is flexibility in therapy and it is important to our associates to tailor the therapy experience to meet the unique needs of each client.

Assessments

Psycho-Educational Assessments: Ages 16+

We provide psycho-educational assessments for adolescents, post-secondary students, and adults who are experiencing academic or cognitive difficulties. Common presenting concerns include problems with reading, writing, math, attention, executive functioning, memory, or comprehension. The assessments are designed to identify your learning style, including your specific pattern of strengths and weaknesses. The assessments can also identify disorders such as ADHD or Specific Learning Disabilities.

Assessment Process

Assessments are comprehensive and typically involve approximately 6 hours of testing, including an initial clinical interview to discuss your background and history, present functioning, and presenting concerns, as well as the completion of a wide range of tasks to evaluate your functioning. Testing is usually completed within one day, although testing sessions can be divided across two days. Upon completion of the testing, a comprehensive report is generated and the client will be invited to meet with Dr. Klein for a feedback session during which the results of the assessment are discussed. The feedback session is generally scheduled within 2-3 weeks following the testing. The report will be provided to the client, detailing the results of the assessment, as well as specific recommendations to improve academic and cognitive functioning. Information obtained from the assessment can also be helpful in informing your choices regarding educational and career planning and in helping you achieve your academic and vocational goals.
